Air Treatment in Cheese Factories

Air Treatment in Cheese Factories:
A Customized Decontamination Solution with Photoclean

Air quality, which is essential in all professional sectors, is particularly critical in the food industry. The risks of contamination during production, as well as during processing and packaging, are high and can have serious consequences, both financially and in terms of public health.

When it comes to cheese production, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that microorganisms such as Penicillium play an active role in the creation of many types of cheese. Air treatment in cheese-making facilities must therefore take this into account to target only those microorganisms that, through cross-contamination, could alter the properties of the products.

Photoclean, a specialist in microbiological and chemical air decontamination in industrial, medical, and professional settings, offers you a customized solution perfectly tailored to your business and the specific characteristics of your facilities.

The Problem of Contamination in Cheese Production and Its Implications

There are various sources of contamination in cheese production: yeasts, molds, bacteria… Microorganisms and chemical contaminants present in the air can easily multiply in the absence of an appropriate solution and cause harmful changes: alterations in the taste, appearance, and texture of cheeses… In some cases, these changes can render the products unfit for consumption and thus pose a genuine health risk.

Since the growth of contaminants is partly linked to temperature and humidity levels, dairies and cheese factories are particularly vulnerable to this type of problem. Given the delicate nature of dairy products, it is easy to understand just how dramatic the consequences of contamination in the production area can be, particularly when dangerous pathogenic contaminants such as Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, or Salmonella: unsellable products, product recalls…

The only way to combat these risks is to identify the contaminants present in the air and tackle them directly to eliminate them.

Effective air decontamination with our line of UV treatment systems

Photoclean’s air disinfection solution is based on the interaction between the contaminants to be removed and our air decontamination modules. These modules combine the disinfecting power of UV-C rays with a specialized filter medium—designed and manufactured in-house—that traps the contaminants long enough for their structure (RNA) to be broken down, thereby eliminating their ability to replicate.

Our devices operate continuously and directly target contaminants in the ambient air rather than the inert particles to which they are often attached, as is generally the case with traditional systems. Since contaminants are much less numerous than inert particles (on average, about 1 in 1,000), this system consumes less energy and is therefore less expensive. It also allows for the development of smaller units.

This results in optimal air decontamination and humidity control in cheese-making facilities: the amount of bacteria, mold, and yeast in the environment is drastically reduced, and chemical contaminants are destroyed. This also eliminates odor problems caused by VOC contamination. Since the units operate continuously and autonomously, protection is provided at all times.

For this reason, many specialized industrial groups turn to us for our services.

A product line, a customized solution

Photoclean’s UV disinfection system is available in a wide range of products: universal modules forair handling unitsused in cheese aging, freestanding units that can be easily moved and mounted on the ceiling or wall…

But what really sets us apart is the support we offer: PhotoClean doesn’t just sell you our products—we come to your site to conduct a comprehensive audit and provide you with a customized solution perfectly tailored to your specific challenges and constraints.

We provide you with a comprehensive report, including the recommended units, their specifications, and their layout within the space to ensure easy installation by your service provider.

The units are then custom-built in our Lyon workshops to meet your needs and requirements.
