The History of Our Company
Photoclean was founded in 2005 by two former manufacturers of air handling units for the industrial sector—particularly for food and beverage companies.
The idea for our company arose from an observation: many customers wanted to decontaminate and disinfect the entire volume of their facilities (often factories) to eliminate contaminants and combat microbiological hazards. However, the filtration systems available at the time to capture fine particles had the drawback of causing significant pressure drops and requiring frequent air changes. Treating very large volumes in their entirety therefore required the installation of enormous machines, which were both costly and energy-intensive. Because this solution was too restrictive, companies often ruled it out, even at the risk of exacerbating contamination problems.
We then came up with the idea of adapting UVC disinfection technology to allow our customers to treat their entire facilities while minimizing pressure drop and controlling their energy consumption. We have developed modules that combine the power of UV light with a specialized medium—created in-house—that traps microorganisms and diffuses the rays for greater effectiveness.
The result: our products can be integrated into any space and adapt to all ventilation systems and air handling units, with no flow rate limitations and very few modifications required. This is an ideal solution for companies seeking a microbiological decontamination solution that fits within their budget. Photoclean was born.
We first validated our UV disinfection systems in the healthcare sector in Lyon and Lille to verify their effectiveness, before partnering with a major player in the pharmaceutical industry, which enabled us to secure further validations within the industry.
Word of mouth then took hold and grew year after year, further aided by our presence at numerous trade shows.
