Misting Disinfection:
Benefits and Limitations
Commonly used in commercial spaces, particularly during a pandemic, misting disinfection eliminates microbiological contamination from surfaces.
Effective against viruses and bacteria, this technique is best suited for use when the premises are empty, such as on weekends. However, it has certain drawbacks that other methods do not. To make the right choice, you’ll need to assess your needs and expectations and be aware of the constraints specific to your business.
Photoclean helps you see things more clearly…
The Method of Misting Indoor Spaces
Fogging disinfection is an effective technique for killing viruses and bacteria on surfaces. The method is simple: it involves spraying a disinfectant in the form of microdroplets into the premises using high pressure. As it settles on equipment and all surfaces—without wetting them—it works effectively to destroy microorganisms.
Many service sector companies, as well as schools and healthcare facilities, use dry misting to sanitize their unoccupied spaces. However, this method has limitations and may not be the most suitable for industrial settings, particularly in the food industry.
The Limitations of Disinfection by Nebulization
Admittedly, this technique is effective against microorganisms. But it has its limitations:
- it requires that the premises remain empty for several hours
- as soon as people return, the premises can become contaminated again
- misting treats surfaces but does not perform air decontamination, except during the disinfection process
UV Air Treatment: Continuous Air Decontamination
To overcome the drawbacks of misting, particularly in industrial and food industry facilities, PhotoClean has developed a comprehensive and high-performance solution: UV disinfection of facilities.
In our air treatment modules, UV-C rays are combined with a filter medium that traps microorganisms and other pollutants, allowing them to be oxidized. This process, known as photolysis, enables the instantaneous and continuous elimination of all contaminants: viruses, bacteria, yeasts, molds, VOCs, toxins, particles, and more.
The solution for microbiological decontamination using UV light offers undeniable advantages:
- There is no need to interrupt business operations: photolysis is a natural process that does not release chemicals into the environment; contaminants are broken down until they are mineralized. Therefore, there is no impact on human health
- Decontamination is permanent, whether the premises are in use or not
- Since it does not require the aerial spraying of chemicals, UV disinfection poses no risk to equipment or food products
- Our universal air disinfection and air decontamination modules are compatible with all air handling units
