Dual-flow AHU: A High-Performance Solution
Air handling units ( AHUs) with dual-flow systems, which combine indoor air purification and ventilation, are an attractive option for commercial and industrial facilities. However, to optimize air decontamination, it is important to supplement them with specific modules. Here’s why.
How a Dual-Flow Air Handling Unit Works
Unlike a single-flow air handling unit, which simply filters the air in the rooms before returning it to the ventilation system, so-called dual-flow models ensure that the indoor air is refreshed. This is achieved in various ways: either by drawing in fresh air from outside, by recirculating indoor air, or by combining both processes.
Indoor air renewal is a legal requirement, which explains why professionals are interested in AHUs that offer this option. There is, however, a downside: there is a risk of spreading viruses circulating in the indoor air if they pass through the heat recovery unit and remain there.
As a precautionary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies therefore prefer to shut down their heat recovery units, which leads to overuse of the AHU’s cooling coils and, consequently, higher energy costs.
Our two-in-one air handling units: the ideal solution for treating the air in your facilities
Good news: Thanks to the world-exclusive technology developed by PhotoClean, you’ll be able to safely restart your recovery units! We offer two high-performance, cost-effective solutions, depending on your needs and whether or not you have existing equipment on your premises.
Our universal air purification and air decontamination modules ensure the elimination of microorganisms in recirculated air—not merely their containment. Our models are compatible with all air handling units on the market, as well as all types of treatment systems. This offers you a twofold advantage, as you benefit from a high-performance system without having to undertake major construction work.
Our air handling units with integrated decontamination modules, meanwhile, combine a high-efficiency air handling unit with air purification at a rate of over 95%. Thanks to their low energy consumption, these units replace stale air with decontaminated air in your facilities without driving up your electricity bills.
Photolysis, an innovative process
The effectiveness of our air treatment devices is based on patented technology. In fact, the sterilizing power of UV-C has been known for a long time and has been used successfully for water treatment for many years. However, until recently, the technical challenges associated with the short wavelength of these rays made their use in air treatment very complicated and uneconomical.
By combining our UV lamps with a proprietary filter medium, we have solved this problem and created air treatment systems that are as effective as they are compact and energy-efficient. Far from resting on our laurels, PhotoClean works every day to develop customized solutions tailored to the needs of professionals and manufacturers across all industries.
