Absolute filtration

Absolute Filtration vs. UV Decontamination:
Pros and Cons

Designed to trap even the smallest microorganisms, such as viruses, absolute filtration ensures optimal air decontamination.

However, this type of high-performance filter is not compatible with all air handling units and requires bulky, energy-intensive installations that are not suitable for all types of businesses or spaces.

To purify the air in your facilities in a simple, effective, and cost-efficient way, Photoclean has developed an innovative UV decontamination system based on the principle of photolysis.

Absolute filters: Efficiency comes at a cost…

In the category of fine filters, ULPA and HEPA models offer the highest level of efficiency. They are capable of trapping extremely small pollutants, including the pathogen responsible for COVID-19, which is no larger than 0.01 µm.

Commonly found in cleanrooms, absolute filters guarantee decontamination rates exceeding 99.98%. However, their exceptional efficiency comes at the cost of installation constraints.

To trap a single pathogen, the filter traps approximately 1,000 harmless inert particles. Consequently, to decontaminate a room, this type of system requires large, energy-intensive installations.

Furthermore, due to the high pressure exerted on the air, this type of filter is incompatible with a conventional air handling unit (AHU).

UV Decontamination: An Effective and Reliable Alternative

Founded in 2005 by professionals in the field of industrial air treatment, Photoclean has spent years developing a proprietary technology that harnesses the disinfecting properties of UV-C rays.

The process relies on a natural chemical reaction called photolysis, which involves a UV lamp combined with a proprietary filter medium we developed that traps contaminants to enable their destruction. The photolysis process is triggered by UV-C radiation: contaminants trapped by the media are permanently destroyed and converted into CO2 and H2O.

This technique addresses the issue of UV wavelength—which is inherently short—and allows for continuous treatment of your entire facility, regardless of volume, without releasing chemicals into the air.

Photoclean: A Comprehensive Disinfection Solution for Your Premises

What makes us leaders in the field of air decontamination isn’t just our technology. It’s also the support and tailored solutions we provide to meet our customers’ needs and help them resolve issues specific to their industry.

Manufacturing, food industry, laboratories, and the service sector: each sector faces specific contamination risks (microbiological, chemical, particulate, etc.).

To provide you with a disinfection solution for your premises that perfectly meets your needs, our technicians will visit your site and conduct a thorough assessment. Following this, our engineering department will recommend the most suitable equipment based on the type of pollutants you are exposed to and the volume of air to be treated.

We create layout plans based on your specific requirements (existing setup, workplace ergonomics, etc.) to ensure quick and easy implementation by an outside contractor. For your complete peace of mind, we’ll contact your project manager to guide and support them throughout the process.

A complete line of air disinfection modules

To meet all your needs, we have developed air decontamination systems in various sizes and with different flow rates:

  • Universal air purifiers that can be integrated into your air handling unit
  • freestanding enclosures designed to be mounted, for example, in a suspended ceiling
  • rooftop units to be installed on the roof to manage air extraction and ventilation
  • mobile units, tailored to your specific disinfection needs
  • High-efficiency air handling units with built-in decontamination modules as standard equipment
  • air handling units that incorporate other functions (humidity and temperature control, air extraction, creating negative or positive pressure in your premises, etc.)

Please feel free to contact our engineering department to request a customized audit!
