Evaluation of a Mobile Air Treatment System Conducted at the Lille Regional Hospital Center

Purpose

The purpose of this report is to evaluate the performance of the Compact AirPur Mobile 1800 portable air purification system, manufactured by Photoclean Quartz, through challenge tests conducted in accordance with the Lille University Hospital (CHRU) protocol: PT/AIR/08-01.

  • Mobile air treatment device: 1 Compact AirPur Mobile 1800 unit positioned at an angle, operating at a flow rate of 1,100 m³/h, for decontaminating a 42 m³ sealed chamber that has no air treatment system
  • Dust Level Tests: Samples are taken in the center of the room, at a height of 1.20 meters, after misting with 10⁶ CFU (Colony-Forming Units) of Aspergillus niger.
  • These samples are collected at the end of the misting process (T = 0 min), and then at the following time points: T = 10 min, T = 20 min, T = 40 min, T = 1 h, T = 1 h 30 min, and T = 2 h.
  • Mycological testing: Samples are taken at a height of 1 meter, near the “door” and near the “window,” after misting with 10⁶ CFU (Colony-Forming Units) of Aspergillus niger at T = 0, then at the following time points: T = 10 min, T = 20 min, T = 40 min, T = 1 h, T = 1 h 30 min, and T = 2 h.
  • Each set of tests is performed three times.
  • Control Chamber: The same tests were conducted without an air treatment system to verify the concentrations of Aspergillus niger aerosolized.
  • Dust Measurements:
  • Initial concentrations: approximately 20,000,000 particles/m³ with a size of 0.5 μm or greater.
  • Approximately 4,000,000 particles per cubic meter with a size of 5 μm or greater.
Changes in the average dust level inside the room not equipped with a mobile air-treatment device (Control)
Changes in the average dust level inside the chamber equipped with the Compact AirPur Mobile 1800 unit while it is operating
  • Mycological samples:
  • Initial concentration (at T = 0 min): greater than 260 CFU/m³ (Biocollector counting limit).
  • A decrease in the number of CFU/m³ began to be observed after 10 minutes.
  • Threshold reached during testing: 6 CFU/m³.
  • Test room: concentration greater than 260 CFU/m³ at T=0 min and equal to 185 CFU/m³ at T=2 h.

Under the experimental conditions studied (using the Compact AirPur Mobile 1800 at a flow rate of 1,100 m³/h), we observed:

  • A reduction in the particle concentration of 1 Log for particles ≥ 0.5 μm in size and approximately 3 Log for particles ≥ 5 μm in size after 10 minutes.
  • A 2-log reduction for particles ≥ 0.5 μm in size and a 3-log reduction for particles ≥ 5 μm in size after 20 minutes.
  • A concentration of particles ≥ 0.5 μm and ≥ 5 μm after 1 hour and 30 minutes, corresponding to ISO Class 7 within the chamber.
  • A significant reduction in fungal airborne contamination after 10 minutes (in the test chamber compared to the control chamber).
  • Maintaining a low level of fungal airborne contamination (≤13 CFU/m³) at T = 2 h.

The Compact AirPur Mobile 1800, operated at 1,100 m³/h in a sealed room (chamber-type) that had been subjected to misting with 106 CFU ofAspergillus niger, results in a significant reduction in the particulate and fungal loads after 10 minutes and maintains an air quality level corresponding to ISO Class 7 two hours after the initial contamination, as well as a low level of fungal airborne contamination.
