Air Treatment Technology

High-Performance, Cost-Effective Air Treatment Technology

Photoclean is a company specializing in industrial air decontamination. Since 2005, we have been a market leader, offering professionals cutting-edge solutions. Learn about our exclusive air treatment technology and what sets it apart from the rest.

Biological Contamination in Industrial Settings: A Significant Impact

The purpose of microbiological and chemical air decontamination is to ensure hygiene in production facilities, as well as to reduce energy and maintenance costs. In industrial settings, the growth of mold—the primary contaminant in the food industry—has numerous consequences:

  • damage to the premises and products;
  • clogging of ventilation systems and filters;
  • excessive use of biocidal products;
  • increased cleaning and maintenance needs for the facilities;
  • increased energy costs due to pressure loss caused by mold growth in filtration and ventilation systems.

Ultimately, the economic impact on the company can be significant: higher energy bills, products rendered unfit for consumption…

Air Filtration and Purification Technologies

There are various solutions on the market for removing microorganisms, mold, and other VOCs (volatile organic compounds) present in the air and on surfaces. Air filtration systems fall into two categories: mechanical filtration, which acts like a sieve, and activated carbon filtration. Activated carbon is unique in its ability to capture numerous chemical compounds, including VOCs.

However, the first option is effective only if there is a high rate of air exchange, while the second requires frequent filter changes and is ineffective against microorganisms or in high-humidity conditions.

Other air purification techniques are used in industrial settings. This is particularly true of misting, which is effective but restrictive: the premises must be empty during the process, and potential contamination resumes as soon as employees return. Fumigation has the same drawbacks.

Finally, positive or negative air pressure is used in industrial settings where it is appropriate. These two air decontamination techniques also have drawbacks: they are energy-intensive and require additional air filtration and treatment.

Mechanical filtration reduces the concentration of particles in the air. Activated carbon is effective against large molecules and chemical contamination. The spraying or fumigation of oxidizing agents acts as a curative treatment on contaminated surfaces. Positive pressure allows for the treatment ofcontaminated air.
What if there were a method that combined the advantages of all these air treatment techniques…without any of their drawbacks?

A revolutionary air treatment technology

The main advantage of Photoclean solutions can be summed up in a few words: they continuously destroy biological, chemical, and odor-causing contaminants. Our system is based on the principle of photolysis, whereby UV-C rays trigger a chemical reaction that permanently destroys pollutants and contaminants.

Our air decontamination technology stands out thanks to one crucial detail: the addition of a proprietary medium. This medium optimizes the action of UV light and prolongs its effectiveness over time.

The high quality of our air decontamination systems is proven in both fresh and recirculated air, in demanding industrial environments such as the food industry, wine industry, and pharmaceutical industries.

The advantages of Photoclean air treatment units can be summarized as follows:

  • no storage of contaminants, but immediate and permanent disposal;
  • low pressure drop, as the system allows inert particles to pass through;
  • No oversized installations or costly operation—the modules are compact and energy-efficient, ensuring maximum efficiency.

In conclusion, while removing particulates requires filtering the air using air handling units, chemical and biological contaminants and unpleasant odors can be addressed simply and cost-effectively using Photoclean technology.
